Dynamic Advantage Outdoor classes

Cancer survivors are actively participating in personalized Dynamic Strength Training® group exercise programs at St. Vincent Medical Center in Los Angeles, CA and at The Wellness Community-Foothills in Pasadena, CA. These unique sessions use multiple levels of elastic resistance tubing plus a few unique accessories to effectively challenge all major muscle groups. Up to fifteen people receive customized fitness instruction at the same time. The St. Vincent Medical Center program is funded by a grant from the Daughters of Charity Foundation.

In 2002, Dynamic Strength Training for Cancer Survivors at St. Vincent Medical Center received international recognition as a finalist for a prestigious Nova7 Award by IHRSA (The International Health, Racquet and Sports Club Association) and Fitness Management Magazine in the category of Best Innovation in Exercise Programming. The Wellness Community-Foothills' Dynamic Strength Training® program has been in place continuously since April 1, 1996. It is the original flagship program designed specifically to serve the needs of people experiencing cancers of all types. Both programs are offered free of charge.

Up to 60 people per week are consistently involved in these activities that boost their fitness levels. Additionally, participants are making new friends while establishing new support groups at the same time. It becomes clear that they are not alone in their battle for longevity. Testimonials from our team members!

Chronic Lymphocitic Leukemia since 1997 has caused a loss of energy and muscle tissue on my arms and upper body. For the past six months, of training with The Dynamic Advantage, I am happy to report increased energy, strength and encouragement to attain greater progress. At 79 years old, I do my housework and gardening while volunteering and engaging in social clubs.

I drive 25 miles to Dynamic Strength Training sessions every week. They are a blast. I need the exercise for my recovery from prostate cancer. Thank you. The instructors are great!

We felt there was some good evidence that light exercise following chemotherapy would help patients recover faster following their treatments. With the help of the St. Vincent Foundation, we began a weekly session in 1998 for our patients and their families. They do tolerate chemotherapy with less malaise and fatigue. Moreover, they become more confident and focused. Many of our "regulars" share a real camaraderie that we rarely see in other circumstances. The Dynamic Advantage provides a real and tangible benefit for the cancer patient. Their understanding of the physiology and psychodynamics of their program provides our patients with a maximally efficient means to improve strength and endurance without boredom, embarrassment or frustration. Additionally, their attention to each patient enables the to train the wheelchair-bound patient and his or her athletic neighbor in the same session without compromising either. Their skills - and their results - have been most impressive.
